Problem Addressed & Objective
· Present To promote scientific, sustainable, and commercially viable livestock farming in Uttarakhand through entrepreneurship development.
· To generate self-employment and enhance the income of rural households, women, youth, and farmers by establishing livestock-based enterprises.
Scheme Design and Key Intervention
· Interest Subsidy: The State Government provides 90% interest subsidy on eligible bank loans taken for approved livestock units.
· Target Beneficiaries: Permanent residents of Uttarakhand fulfilling the scheme guidelines.
· Application Process: Applicants submit their proposal through the local veterinary hospital along with a bank's loan consent/sanction letter.
· Institutional partners- all Co-operative & Nationalised Banks.

Success Stories of CM-SLM
Goat Unit (10+1)
Under the Chief Minister’s State Livestock Mission Scheme, during the year 2025–26, Shri Bhupal Singh Rana, son of Shri Uttam Singh, resident of Village Bara, Post Office Bansbagar, Development Block Munsiyari, District Pithoragarh, availed a bank loan of ₹2.00 lakh at 90% interest subsidy for establishing a goat unit comprising 10 improved-breed female goats and 1 buck. Through the scheme, the beneficiary’s income is increasing and his livelihood is improving.
Layer Farm
Under the Chief Minister’s State Livestock Mission Scheme, during the year 2024–25, Shri Hamraj, son of Shri Mahendra Ram, resident of Syuwan, Pipli, Development Block Kanalichhina, benefited from the Layer Farm Scheme and established a layer farm with a bank loan of ₹3.15 lakh under the scheme.
Through 90% interest subsidy and appropriate training provided by the Animal Husbandry Department, the beneficiary’s livelihood has been steadily improving. At present, the farm has 150–170 layer poultry birds, producing an average of 1,500 eggs per month. In this way, the initiative is also inspiring other livestock farmers towards rural self-employment.
Mule Unit
Under the Chief Minister’s State Livestock Mission Scheme, during the year 2023–24, a project worth ₹2.00 lakh was approved by the department for Shri Jagat Singh Mehta, resident of Digda Muwani, Tehsil Devalthal, Development Block Kanalichhina, for establishing a 2-mule unit.
He stated that, due to the absence of a motorable road in the area, he is able to earn a daily income by providing mule transportation services, which has improved his livelihood. His annual income has now increased by approximately ₹1.80 lakh per year.
Buffalo Unit
Under the scheme, Shri Dinesh Singh, son of Shri Bhawan Singh, resident of Village Siya, Kafligair, Development Block Bageshwar, whose livelihood was primarily dependent on livestock rearing, was sanctioned a project worth ₹1.80 lakh by the department during 2025–26 for establishing a 2-buffalo unit.
Under the scheme, he is rearing 2 improved-breed buffaloes and producing 15–20 litres of milk per day. This is providing local people with access to pure and fresh milk, paneer and ghee. After fully repaying the loan instalments, the beneficiary has used his income to purchase 2 additional buffaloes.
