Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr. B. V. R. C. Purushottam on Thursday held a video conference with District Magistrates and District Election Officers from across Uttarakhand to review preparations for the upcoming Assembly General Elections. During the meeting, the CEO issued detailed directions for ensuring timely and systematic implementation of the Election Commission’s guidelines and election planner.
Dr. Purushottam directed all District Magistrates to conduct on-the-spot inspections of polling stations and ensure that essential facilities, including proper polling station buildings, electricity, drinking water and other necessary arrangements, are in place.
Emphasising the importance of comprehensive training, the CEO instructed districts to ensure the participation of all District Election Officers (DEOs), Returning Officers (ROs) and State-Level Master Trainers in training programmes as per the schedule prescribed by the Election Commission.
The CEO also directed all districts to prepare a Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) plan and to compile detailed information regarding personnel requirements at the booth and Assembly constituency levels. Districts were further instructed to prepare lists of the vehicles and manpower required for election-related duties.
Dr. Purushottam informed the District Magistrates that senior officials of the Election Commission may visit Uttarakhand in the coming month to undertake a detailed review of election preparedness with the district administration. He directed all District Collectors to ensure that the required preparations are completed within the stipulated timelines. During the video conference, the CEO also reviewed the district-wise progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and took updates from the participating districts regarding the ongoing electoral roll revision process.
The meeting focused on ensuring that all aspects of election preparedness—from polling station facilities and training to manpower, transportation, voter awareness and electoral roll revision—are completed in a timely and coordinated manner.
